Woman dies after cosmetic surgery in Aleppo sparks controversy

The death of Mrs. Judy Sankri after undergoing plastic surgery in a private hospital in Aleppo sparked a wave of controversy and demands to reveal the causes of death, amid accusations by her family of negligence and negligence by her family.

Official action and legal proceedings

In an immediate response to the incident, the Director of Aleppo Health, Dr. Mohammed Wajih Jumaa, announced the formation of a five-member joint "medical expertise" committee, which includes representatives of the Health Directorate, the Doctors' Syndicate, and the Forensic Medicine, to investigate all the technical circumstances and medical procedures taken during the operation. The Director of Health  confirmed in a statement that the results of the investigation will be submitted to the competent judiciary to take the necessary legal measures, noting that the security authorities have arrested the medical team pending investigation.

Family Testimony: Last-Minute Details

For his part, Tawfiq Qatash, the husband of the deceased, held the surgeon and anesthesiologist fully responsible, revealing shocking details, as he confirmed that his wife's initial tests were "excellent", but the patient was admitted to the operating room without the presence of the doctor in charge at first.

Qatash added that the doctor later informed him of severe bleeding and cardiac arrest while trying to wake her from the anesthesia, describing what happened as "gross negligence".

In the same context, the deceased's sister pointed out that the anesthesiologist was absent from the operating room in the first minutes, and relied on his help, which led to the rapid deterioration of Judy's health condition. She left behind three children, living in a state of shock a few weeks before their official exams.

Recurrence of the tragedy

This incident is reminiscent of similar incidents witnessed in Aleppo private hospitals over the past few years, the most prominent of which was the death of a young woman in 2022 as a result of not taking into account her medical history during anesthesia, and another in 2020 during a simple sinus operation, which renews questions about the standards of control and safety in the private medical sector.
