Wall Street Journal: UAE secretly launched attacks against Iran

The Wall Street Journal revealed that the UAE launched military attacks against Iran early last month.
The UAE attacks targeted an oil refinery on Iran's Lavan Island, and coincided "almost" with US President Donald Trump's declaration of a "ceasefire" after a five-week aerial bombardment campaign.
The American newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that the United States secretly welcomed the Emirati attacks and any participation from another Gulf country that wanted to join the fighting.
Irad confirms attacks
On the morning of April 8, Iranian state television reported that oil facilities on Iran's Lavan Island had been attacked.
Iranian television indicated that Tehran responded to these attacks by carrying out missile and drone attacks on the UAE and Kuwait a few hours after "the attack," without specifying the exact source of the targeting.
On the same day, a few hours after the ceasefire went into effect, the UAE announced that it had been attacked by 17 Iranian missiles and 35 drones.
The UAE is the most confrontational Gulf country
In this context, the American newspaper "Wall Street Journal" quoted informed sources as saying that the UAE has emerged as the Gulf country most inclined to openly confront Tehran, which has practically translated by adhering to close military cooperation with Washington throughout the war.
Politically, the UAE has supported draft UN resolutions that allow the use of force when necessary to end Iranian threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and has taken a series of measures against Iranian interests, including the closure of Iranian schools and clubs in Dubai, as well as the denial of visas and transit rights to Iranians, limiting an economic artery that the UAE has been providing to Iran for years under severe Western sanctions.
Israel: UAE Attacked Iranian Desalination Plant
Israeli media revealed on March 8, citing Israeli sources it described as insiders, that the UAE had attacked a desalination plant in Iran, which Abu Dhabi denied at the time.
Ali Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Defence Affairs Committee of the UAE Federal National Council, said via the X platform: "This is false news. When we do something, we have the courage to announce it."
Media sources have not been able to independently verify the authenticity of the report on the Emirati attack, the newspaper has not specified the date of the attack, and official Emirati sources have not yet commented on the Wall Street Journal reports.
The United States and Israel began a war on Iran on February 28, only to respond by launching attacks on Israel and American sites and interests in the countries of the region, before Washington and Tehran announced a temporary truce brokered by Pakistan on April 8. On April 11, Pakistan hosted a round of talks between the United States and Iran, but they did not reach an agreement to end the war, and Trump later announced the extension of the truce without a time limit.
