Violent clashes between the Internal Security and the "National Guard" in western Sweida

Violent clashes broke out between the Internal Security Forces and the so-called "National Guard" forces on the  western axes of the city of Sweida, in which both sides used heavy and medium weapons, according to news websites in Sweida.

The local website Sweida 24 reported that members of  the National Guard targeted security points in the areas of Raymah Hazem and Wolga, which led to the outbreak of clashes in which medium and heavy weapons were used.

According to the website, the two sides exchanged shelling with heavy machine guns and mortar shells on several axes in the western countryside, while local sources reported that at least 10 casualties occurred among the two sides without official confirmation of this toll.

The website quoted sources it described as "private" that a group of the 501st "Knights of Hamza" battalion of the "National Guard", led by Yamen Al-Saghir, tried to infiltrate towards the Mansoura-Rima Hazem axis under heavy fire cover using 23 mm machine guns and 107 mm rockets, but the Internal Security Units monitored the movement early and targeted the group with light and medium weapons, which led to direct clashes that included the intensive use of mortar shells.

Syrian News: "Rebel groups" target security points in Sweida

In turn, the Syrian channel "Al-Ekhbariya" reported that "rebel groups" in the southern province of Sweida renewed their targeting of ISF points, for the second time, on Sunday.

The official channel quoted an unnamed security source as saying that "rebel groups in Sweida province are targeting the Internal Security Forces points on the Rima Hazem and Wolga axis."

Later, the channel quoted an unnamed security source as saying that the targeting was renewed in the same areas, without immediately providing details about the results of those attacks.

These developments come despite the continuation of the ceasefire agreement that followed bloody clashes last July that killed hundreds of people and wounded hundreds of people between the internal security forces and groups loyal to them on the one hand, and groups affiliated with Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Almohad sect, and the Syrian government formed a special investigative committee to prosecute and hold accountable those involved in these events.

Sweida Media Center: A plan to assassinate 77 anti-Hijri figures

In a statement published on April 28, 2026  on its Facebook page, the "Sweida Media Center" quoted  a former officer, who preferred to remain anonymous and was content with the symbol "S.W.", as saying: "There is information that there is an assassination unit linked to a security office affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard Command, and that there is a plan under preparation to assassinate about 77 people, according to him."

The source added that these moves may be part of an attempt to create a state of security chaos by carrying out sporadic targeting operations that pave the way for a phase of organized assassinations, and opening the door to kidnappings and physical liquidations targeting activists and local figures.

The same source described the military scene in Sweida as "on the verge of collapse", as a result of conflicts of interest between armed factions, lack of discipline, in addition to the escalation of mutual discourse of betrayal, considering that the recent developments in Sweida reflect a complex reality in which security and political overlap, amid growing fears that the province is entering a new phase of escalation.
