United star breaks Henry and De Bruyne's records... And he writes a new chapter in Premier League history

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has broken one of the Premier League's most important records after he singled out the record for assists in a single season, surpassing Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. 

The historic achievement came when Fernandes made his 2-1  assist of the season, during his side's clash against Brighton on Sunday 24 May in the 38th and final match.

Fernandes took a corner kick inside the box in the 33rd minute, which Danish defender Patrick Durego picked up and headed into the net, to give Manchester United a 3-0 win over Brighton while giving themselves a new record that no player in the history of the competition has ever seen.

That number ended the partnership between Henry and De Bruyne, who each had  20 assists in a single season.

An exceptional individual season for the Portuguese star

Fernandes' achievement came just a day after he was crowned the Premier League's Player of the Season award, as well as the Football Writers' Association award, confirming the 31-year-old is having one of his best seasons ever.

Despite his focus on collective awards, Fernandes said last week that he was very grateful for the recognition of his work from fans and players, stressing that this support gives him extra motivation to continue to do better.

Remarkable numbers and a strong rise for United

Fernandes has scored eight goals this season, along with 2assists, and has directly  contributed to Manchester United's resurgence under coach Michael Carrick, who led the team to finish the season in third place and secure qualification for the Champions League.

Fernandes' new achievement cements his position as one of the world's leading playmakers, placing him at the forefront of the Premier League's most influential players in recent years.
