Turkish Airlines has announced the resumption of its flights to Damascus, Beirut and Amman airports, starting from the first of next May.
Anadolu Agency quoted the company as saying in a statement that flights to these destinations will resume from May 1, after being suspended due to security concerns in the airspace.
It is noteworthy that flights have been suspended since February 28, coinciding with the start of the US-Israeli-Iranian war.
Turkish Airlines announced the resumption of its flights to the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, starting April 22.
Civil Aviation: Opening Syrian Airspace to International Airlines
The head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Al-Hosari, confirmed that the movement of planes heading to Europe through Syrian airspace is witnessing a significant increase by international airlines, according to the latest operating indicators.
In a post on the "X" platform, Al-Hosari explained that this development came as a result of continuous efforts to enhance technical readiness and apply safety standards in accordance with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
He pointed out that Syria is gradually reconnecting itself to the global aviation network, despite the continuation of some precautionary classifications imposed on its airspace, pointing out that improving the levels of operational efficiency would make Syrian airspace a permanent corridor for international air traffic.
The Chairman stressed that work is ongoing to align international assessments with operational reality, with the aim of enhancing air safety and providing a more reliable environment for air traffic.
Resumption of work at Damascus airport
On April 8, the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation announced the reopening of all air corridors that were previously closed, in addition to the resumption of work at Damascus International Airport and the return of regular air traffic.
The Authority explained that the decision came based on continuous technical assessments conducted by a specialized risk management committee affiliated with it, which concluded that Syrian airspace is ready to resume air traffic in accordance with the approved standards.
In a statement published on Facebook, the Civil Aviation Authority indicated that the resumption of operation includes receiving and taking off flights according to the specified schedules, while ensuring compliance with the highest air safety standards.
