Trump: Truce with Iran in the "recovery room"

U.S. President Donald Trump has called the truce with Iran "moribund," calling Tehran's latest response to the U.S. proposal to end the war "stupid."

He said in press statements on Monday (May 11th) that the truce was "weak and at its weakest", hinting at the possibility of continued attacks against Iran.

Trump said he rejected the Iranian proposal because it did not include a clear pledge not to have a nuclear weapon, adding that he stopped reading the Iranian response because it was "a piece of garbage."

"After I read this piece of garbage, I didn't finish reading it, I said to myself, 'Am I going to waste my time reading this?'"

He said they had waited for four days for a letter from Iran, stressing that he was not satisfied with the letter, which he said "should not have taken more than ten minutes to prepare."

The US president claimed that the Iranian leadership is made up of "stupid people", and continued: "They think I will say, 'I'm tired of this and I feel some pressure, but I don't feel any pressure, we will win, and militarily, we have already achieved a complete victory.'"

Trump said Iran had agreed not to have a nuclear weapon and claimed that it had "subsequently reneged on this commitment," stressing that no agreement with Iran could be reached without this clause.

He accused Iran's leadership of being "made up of stupid people" and claimed that there are two groups inside Iran, "moderates" and "lunatics", considering that they are unable to reach a consensus.

Criticism of Kurds, Threatens New Naval Operation

Trump criticized the "Kurds" in the region, accusing them of keeping the weapons that were supposed to be delivered to the Iranian protesters, saying: "The Kurds have disappointed us. They have a good reputation in Congress, Congress  says they fight very fiercely, but they fight when they get the money, so I'm very disappointed with the Kurds."

In an interview with Fox News, he announced that he was considering relaunching Operation Freedom Project to ensure commercial ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the operation could be "part of a broader military operation." He stressed that he would continue to negotiate with the current Iranian leadership "until an agreement is reached."

Trump claimed that Iranian negotiators told him that Tehran did not have the technology to clean radioactive material at its damaged nuclear facilities, and that the United States should "get nuclear dust."

A sharp message from my guardianship: Don't bet on our calm

In Tehran, Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran's Supreme Leader's adviser on international affairs, sent a strongly worded message to Trump, warning him not to exploit Iran's "calm" for political gains in Beijing.

Velayati said that "Iran has defeated the United States on the ground" and that Trump "should not be under the illusion that he will emerge victorious in diplomacy."

He added that the US president "believes the Pentagon's lies" about the US death toll, stressing that his nuclear threats "do not change anything in the balance of power".

"Don't think you're going to enter Beijing into the victors. Learn first the ABCs of the new geopolitical order of West Asia."
