Trump surprises Arab and Muslim countries by requesting to join the Abraham Accords

A political and intelligence report revealed that US President Donald Trump has begun practical steps to formulate the features of the strategic political phase that will follow any possible agreement between Washington and Tehran, as the White House's ambitions have gone beyond military de-escalation to push for a comprehensive regional settlement based on expanding the scope of the Abraham Accords.

Behind the scenes of the sudden Saturday call

The American website "Axios" announced in the details of the movement, that President Trump made an extensive phone call that included the leaders of eight pivotal countries in the region, namely: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, and Pakistan, and also coordinated with Turkey, Jordan, and Bahrain, to discuss the formula of the understanding being developed between Washington and Tehran.

The diplomatic sources quoted the discussion as moving directly to the equation of the "day after" of the end of the war in the Middle East, with Trump explicitly telling leaders that he expected countries that do not have formal relations with Israel, or those that have not yet engaged in the peace treaty process, to take actual steps to join the Abraham Accords once the war ends.

A well-informed US official confirmed that this sudden request at a sensitive time caused an unexpected shock to some capitals, specifically Riyadh, Doha and Islamabad, where silence prevailed on the line of communication, prompting Trump to joke with the leaders, asking them, "Are you still there?"

Kushner and Whitkoff moved in the field

During the same call, the US president made it clear that his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will follow up on the file of diplomatic and political relations with Israel intensively in the coming weeks to ensure the continuation of the strategic momentum.

In this context, Trump wrote a subsequent post on his platform "Truth Social" in which he thanked the countries of the Middle East for their cooperation, stressing that mutual relations will be strengthened and prospered with the accession of new countries to the historic agreements, and put forward the hypothesis that Iran itself may join these regional treaties in the future despite Tehran's doctrinal rejection for many decades.

The Saudi Dilemma

Axios  pointed out that the train of comprehensive normalization is hitting a wall of complex geopolitical obstacles, foremost of which is the solid Saudi position, as Riyadh has adhered to its historical position of refusing to move to any official relations without a clear, serious, and time-bound commitment by Tel Aviv to establish an independent Palestinian state.

Al-Mawq said:  "The situation on the ground has further complicated the American vision in light of the continuation of military operations and the state of instability in the Gaza Strip despite the fragile truce agreements, in addition to the state of political uncertainty inside Israel, which is preparing for the upcoming legislative elections next September."

The final data indicated that Trump's desire to make the Abraham Accords a mandatory umbrella for any regional settlement faced great difficulties, which made the possibility of achieving a quick diplomatic breakthrough in this file dependent on the flexibility of the conflicting parties.
