Trump stirs up controversy. I can run for prime minister in Israel

US President Donald Trump has issued sarcastic statements declaring that he has an "overwhelming" popularity in Israel of 99% that qualifies him to lead its government in the future, in conjunction with the release of a local opinion poll showing that his support in the United States has fallen to its lowest levels.
Controversial statements
US President Donald Trump, in an interactive conversation with reporters ahead of boarding the presidential plane "Air Force One" for the state of Connecticut, announced that he enjoys an unprecedented level of support in Israel, claiming that a poll he reviewed this morning gave a popularity rate of about 99%.
Trump added in a sarcastic tone: "Maybe after I finish my work and my presidential term here, I'm going to go there and run for prime minister of Israel."
Reuters/Ipsos poll documents U.S. popularity decline
In contrast, the latest Reuters poll conducted in collaboration with the Ipsos think tank showed a significant decline in popular support for President Donald Trump in the United States.
Only 35 percent of Americans approve of his overall performance in office, a figure that is well close to the lowest level since he returned to the White House last month of 34 percent.
Republican support for Trump erodes
The online digital poll, which surveyed a sample of 1,271 adults across the country with a margin of error of 3 percent, also revealed low support for Trump even among his Republican supporters.
The poll data indicated that the Republican Party's satisfaction rate fell to 79% compared to 91% at the beginning of his current term.
On the economic front, the statistical report showed that only 47% of Republicans trust his policies to manage the "cost of living" file, while 46% of them believe that he is doing poorly in this vital file.
