Third round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations on the 14th of this month

The Israeli Broadcasting  Corporation  claimed that the third round of negotiations between the occupying power and Lebanon, expected at the end of next week in Washington, will be attended by military officials from both sides.

The commission quoted what  it described as  informed political sources as saying that the next round will witness, in addition to diplomats from Tel Aviv, Lebanon and the United States, the participation of officers from the occupation army, and possibly representatives of the Lebanese army.

It said that the purpose of the military participation was to "discuss maps and field steps related to the extension of the ceasefire", while there was no immediate comment from the Lebanese side on this.

She revealed that the occupation army intends to send the head of the Strategy Division, Amhai Levin, after obtaining the approval of the Minister of War, Yisrael Katz, adding that "the nature of the participation of the military personnel has not yet been decided, whether by directly joining the negotiation sessions or only by providing field briefings."

Currently, Simon Karam heads the Lebanese delegation to the Supervisory Committee of the Ceasefire Agreement with the Occupation, known as the "Mechanism", which includes the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), Lebanon "Tel Aviv", France and the United States.

The "Mechanism" Committee was established under the ceasefire agreement reached by Lebanon and the occupation in November 2024, and it monitors its implementation.

Third round of negotiations on May 14 and 15

An official Lebanese source said that the third round of direct negotiations with Israel will be held at the  US State Department headquarters between May 14 and 15.

The source explained in a statement to Anadolu Agency, Thursday, May 7, 2026, that "a delegation headed by former Lebanese ambassador to the United States Simon Karam will visit Washington to attend it, and that the date of its appointment is "up to the US State Department."

In addition, US sources say that work is underway to hold a new round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel next Thursday and Friday in Washington.

For his part, the Lebanese Minister of Information confirmed that the matter of negotiations was not discussed during a cabinet session, stressing that there is coordination on this at the presidential level.

Lebanon: We are not going to a peace agreement

In this context, media quoted an informed source as saying that Lebanon is not moving towards signing a peace agreement, but rather the maximum path is the restoration of rights in exchange for a non-aggression agreement, pointing out that the Lebanese presidency has informed Washington that the meeting now with Netanyahu may lead to the aborting of stability efforts.

During a meeting with journalists in the capital Beirut on Wednesday (May 6), the Lebanese prime minister  said that Lebanon "does not seek normalization with the occupying state, but rather to achieve peace," adding that "our minimum demands is a timetable for the withdrawal of the occupation, and we will develop a plan to limit weapons to the state."

He said that "this is not the first time that Lebanon has engaged in direct negotiations with the occupation," noting that "the stabilization of the ceasefire will form the basis for any new round of negotiations that may be held in Washington."
