The "truce" is cracking... Martyrs and wounded in Israeli raids on Beirut

Tensions are rising in the region just hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week truce, in a move that was supposed to pave the way for de-escalation and open the way for broader negotiations. Despite Pakistan's assertion that the truce includes the Lebanese front, Lebanon has seen its most violent Israeli offensive since early March, putting the fragile agreement to a difficult test.
Hundreds of victims in Lebanon
Israel launched a series of simultaneous airstrikes targeting large areas in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser al-Din said the attacks had resulted in hundreds of casualties among dead and wounded in various areas, while the Ministry of Health announced that hospitals were facing great pressure and a severe shortage of blood units.
The raids covered more than 50 areas and towns, according to sources on the ground, while Lebanese media confirmed that the capital Beirut was subjected to the heaviest shelling in decades. A funeral was also targeted in the eastern town of Shamstar, resulting in a large number of casualties.
The Israeli military said in a statement that about 50 fighter jets took part in the operation, which targeted nearly 100 locations within 10 minutes, noting that the strike had been planned for weeks by the operations and intelligence units and the air force.
Calls for international intervention
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has called on the international community to intervene urgently to stop the attacks, saying that what is happening constitutes a clear violation of international law and threatens regional stability. Authorities have also asked residents to evacuate the streets immediately in anticipation of further escalations.
Iran threatens to close Strait of Hormuz
In Tehran, the escalation in Lebanon has sparked strong reactions, with the spokesman of the National Security Committee of the Iranian parliament, Ebrahim Rezaei, announcing that the continuation of the attacks calls for a halt to the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Rezaei wrote on the "X" platform that the response must be decisive, stressing that the ceasefire must include all fronts or it is considered non-existent.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed Israel's violation of the ceasefire in Iran and Lebanon via phone with the Pakistani army chief , according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, while Fars news agency quoted two Iranian military sources as saying that his country is preparing a response to Israel's violation of the ceasefire and punishing it for the crime it committed in Lebanon.
An open regional scene
The rapid developments indicate that the declared truce faces major challenges, in light of the broad military escalation in Lebanon and Iranian positions that link any truce to a comprehensive cessation of operations on all fronts. As the airstrikes continue and the number of casualties rises, the region appears to be facing a sensitive stage that may determine the course of events in the coming days, amid fears that the confrontation will expand to wider regional levels.
