

The Arab-Egyptian film "The Six" will make a prominent presence at the 2026 Sydney Film Festival, as part of the program of the 73rd edition, which will be launched from June 3 to 14, with the participation of more than 200 films from around the world.
The film presents the director "Marwan Hamed" and a group of Egyptian stars, most notably : Mona Zaki, Karim Abdel Aziz, Nelly Karim,
The film relives the artistic biography of the Egyptian legend "um Kulthum", stopping at early stages of her life inspired by her true story, when she sang in her childhood disguised as a boy before later becoming an immortal Arab icon.
The official promotional advertisement for the film received a great deal of interaction due to the position of the planet of the east in the hearts of the Arab audience in general and the Egyptian audience in particular .
A diverse program and a global vision ...
The new edition of the festival reflects a remarkable diversity of cinematic styles and visions, combining local Australian productions with international notable works, as well as films that have already been screened at major festivals such as Sundance and Berlin.
The program's initial announcement revealed 13 films that will make up the first titles of the course, in a list that intersects narrative and documentary cinema, addressing topics ranging from politics and memory to identity and social transformations.
The festival's first selections reflect a clear trend towards showcasing diverse cinematic voices from different cultures, while maintaining a strong presence for Australian cinema. The inclusion of "The Set" is a boost to the Arab presence at one of the most prominent cinematic events in the Asia-Oceania region.
