The Ministry of Interior arrests two of those involved in the attack on the UAE embassy

The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two people involved in the attack on the headquarters of the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Damascus.

The ministry said in a statement published on its official IDs on Sunday evening, April 5, that  the security units of the Ministry of Interior "arrested  "M.S. and S.A., who were proven to be involved in the attack on the headquarters of the Emirati embassy."

The ministry said it had "immediately begun taking the necessary legal measures against the defendants in accordance with the established procedures", stressing that "any attack on diplomatic missions is a red line that cannot be tolerated", and that it will remain "vigilant and resolute" in protecting these missions and ensuring respect for diplomatic norms.

Previous Statement

In a statement published today, Sunday, April 5, the Ministry of Interior considered that peaceful demonstration is a legitimate right, guaranteed by law as a form of expression of opinion, provided that it adheres to the legal frameworks and does not deviate from its peaceful nature.

"From this point of view, the attack on the Emirati embassy in Damascus during the protests is condemnable and unacceptable, according to its description, explaining that it constitutes a clear violation of national laws," she added.

According to the ministry, these actions "are met with strict legal measures, and the Internal Security Units have begun to strengthen security measures around the headquarters of diplomatic missions, tighten guarding them to ensure their safety and prevent the recurrence of such incidents."

She called on citizens to abide by the laws and be responsible, in order to preserve public security, the dignity of citizens and the sovereignty of the country.

Foreign Ministry rejects attack

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reiterated its "firm and firm" position in rejecting any attack or attempt to approach embassies and diplomatic headquarters inside Syria.

In a statement issued on April 4, it stressed that these headquarters are protected by international law and diplomatic agreements, and represent a symbol of relations between countries and peoples.

The Foreign Ministry expressed its rejection of any slogans or actions offensive to countries or their symbols, considering that this contradicts the principles of mutual respect and international cooperation, stressing the importance of citizens exercising their right to expression within the framework of laws and regulations, in a way that preserves security and stability and prevents any approach to diplomatic premises.

UAE condemns and demands protection guarantee

The UAE Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as "riots, attempted vandalism and attacks" on the headquarters of its diplomatic mission and the residence of the head of mission in Damascus. It reiterated its rejection of the "unacceptable abuses" that targeted Emirati national symbols.

The UAE called on the Syrian government to carry out its duties in securing the embassy and its staff, open an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, ensure that it does not recur, and take legal measures to hold the perpetrators accountable.

It stressed the need to protect diplomatic missions and their staff in accordance with international laws and norms, in particular the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Consecutive Gulf Positions

Gulf condemnations of the attempted storming of the UAE embassy continued during the vigil organized on April 3 in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners.

The latest of these positions came from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which expressed its condemnation of the "riots, assaults and attempted vandalism of property" that affected the embassy headquarters and the headquarters of the head of the mission, in addition to the abuses that targeted Emirati national symbols. Saudi Arabia reiterated its rejection of these attacks, stressing the need to protect diplomats and mission headquarters in accordance with international laws.

The Saudi position was preceded by similar statements from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council, all of which stressed the condemnation of the incident and the need to hold those responsible accountable and prevent its recurrence.

In the same context, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its support for the security and stability of Syria, and the measures it takes to hold those involved accountable, in a way that preserves brotherly relations and contributes to strengthening regional security and stability.
