The Israeli occupation bombards  "Tal Ahmar al-Sharqi" in the countryside of Quneitra

On the evening of Friday,  May 9, 2026, the Israeli occupation forces targeted  the eastern vicinity of Tal Ahmar in the southern countryside of Quneitra with more than 8 explosive bombs, according  to local sources in Quneitra.

The "Daraa 24" website reported that the shelling started from the occupation positions stationed on the western hill of Ahmar, which has been turned into an Israeli military base since the end of 2024, targeting the opposite hill using bombers.

The targeting directly affected the eastern vicinity of Tal Ahmar, with no immediate information about human casualties or material damage as of the moment of writing.

This escalation comes in light of the continued Israeli violations in southern Syria, which are represented by incursions into Syrian territory and the establishment of military bases, in addition to hitting agriculture in Quneitra by razing land, spraying crops with pesticides, setting up military checkpoints, blocking roads, and kidnapping civilians.

Al-Tul al-Ahmar is a ruling point in southern Syria

The western Tel Ahmar is located in direct contact with the border strip, north of the village of Al-Rafid and south of Kodneh, and the Israeli occupation forces tightened their control over it and turned it into an advanced military base equipped with surveillance systems, radars and tanks, making it one of the most important monitoring and supervision sites in the area.

In recent months, eastern Tal Ahmar has turned into a theater of Israeli incursions, earthen berms and intensive artillery shelling, in an attempt to impose fire control over its entire surroundings, and the importance of the softener stems from their high topographical nature, which gives the controlling party a wide visual surveillance capability that extends south to the Yarmouk basin, and north towards the depth of the central Quneitra countryside.

The site forms a control node in the vital road network that connects the villages of Kodna, Brega and Al-Rafid, making it a central connection point between the south and the center, and giving those who control it the ability to control the military and logistical axes throughout the region.

254 Israeli violations in southern Syria

In a tally of Israeli violations in Syria, the Center for Human Rights documented an escalation in violations by the Israeli occupation forces in southern Syria during the month of April 2026, where the total number reached 254 violations, being the second highest monthly toll since the beginning of the year after last March.

According to the report, the majority of these violations were concentrated in Quneitra governorate, which recorded 213 cases, in light of extensive military activity that included ground incursions, raids and the erection of checkpoints.

Daraa governorate came in second place with 32 violations, although the nature of operations in it was more serious, as it included shelling, incursions and intensive flying of aircraft, while in the Damascus countryside and Suwayda, the violations were mainly limited to flying planes.
