Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Hossein Mohebi said on Thursday (June 4th) that a US Patriot missile destroyed the terminal building at Kuwait airport.
According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Mohebi said they had conducted an investigation into the attack on the passenger hall at Kuwait airport, claiming that the IRGC's air force had not carried out any attack on this target.
The results of their investigations showed that "the destruction of the passenger hall at Kuwait airport was caused by a malfunction in the US Patriot systems that failed to intercept Iranian missiles and fell on the terminal", he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement that it had targeted what it called US military bases and sites in Kuwait and Bahrain, in response to attacks it said were launched from the two countries and targeted an oil tanker and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz region.
For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense announced that one person was killed and 63 others were injured following an Iranian attack with 13 missiles and 17 drones, in addition to severe material damage.
Kuwait expels Iranian diplomats after airport attacks
In response to the targeting of its international airport in the capital, Kuwait announced the reduction of the number of members of its Iranian embassy and decided to expel two of them, in protest against the "continuous attacks."
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it had summoned the acting chargé d'affaires at the Iranian embassy to it, Hamid Hamid Yaghoubifar, and handed him an official note of protest regarding "the continuous Iranian aggressions" and the decision to reduce the number of members of the Iranian diplomatic mission to the country.
The ministry explained that it informed him that two members of the Iranian diplomatic mission were considered persona non grata (without identifying them), and requested that they leave the territory of the State of Kuwait within a maximum period of 24 hours.
The decision came in the wake of Iran's "brutal and continuous" attacks with ballistic missiles and drones, which were renewed at dawn today, targeting a number of civilian facilities and vital facilities, including Kuwait International Airport, which led to the death of one person and the injury of dozens of civilians.
There was no immediate comment from Iranian authorities on the Kuwaiti statement.
Hamad bin Jassim: Tehran blackmails the "weaker party"
Former Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani has called for a collective Gulf stance towards Iran, against the backdrop of the attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain at dawn on Wednesday.
In a post on the "X" platform, Ibn Jassim said that it is surprising that Iran repeatedly takes the initiative to respond to any targeting it or its allies in Lebanon by bombing the GCC countries or some of them, pointing out that today's targeting of Kuwait and Bahrain raises questions about the motives of these attacks.
He added that Iran knows the parties it targets and its allies in the region, and knows their "addresses", asking why the responses are directed at the Gulf countries instead of those parties, considering that Tehran is trying to exert pressure on what it sees as the "weaker party" in the current conflict.
Bin Jassim stressed that the current situation requires a unified Gulf position, so that Iran realizes that targeting the Gulf countries will not achieve its goals, stressing that positive relations with Tehran, as a neighboring country, cannot be based on blackmail or at the expense of the sovereignty of the Gulf states.
He also stressed the need not to tolerate the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, calling for it to be kept as an open international corridor as it has been since the beginning, warning against any complacency in dealing with this issue.
He concluded by stressing the need for GCC countries to be aware of the various possible repercussions of any concession or abandonment of national interests, stressing the importance of adhering to inalienable rights and national sovereignty.
