Syrian sources have spoken about the dismissal of Maher al-Sharaa from his position as secretary-general of the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic and the appointment of the governor of Homs, Abdul Rahman al-Ama, in his place.

The sources stated that the blind man started his new job today, Friday, May 8, 2026, while Maher Al-Shara left his position amid news of his candidacy to assume the presidency of the "Syrian Development Organization" (formerly the Syrian Secretariat for Development).

No official announcement has yet been made confirming or denying these changes.

For the past few days, there has been talk in Syrian circles about changes in the positions of the governors of Deir Ezzor, Latakia and Homs, and according to what has been circulated, Brigadier General Ziad Fawaz Al-Ayesh is a candidate to assume the position of governor of Deir Ezzor, succeeding the current governor, while there is also talk of a possible change in the position of the governor of Latakia Ahmed Mustafa, who hails from the city of Latakia, in addition to the appointment of Marhaf al-Naasan as the governor of Homs.
