The Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) denied on Tuesday that it had issued any decision obliging citizens to buy gas cylinders in US dollars.
The director of a hydrocarbons company in Syrian Petroleum, Akram Hammouda, confirmed in a press statement that what is being circulated on some social media about obliging citizens to buy gas cylinders in dollars is completely untrue information and has nothing to do with the mechanism of selling the substance to consumers.
Hamouda pointed out that there are internal organizational procedures related to the mechanism of work between gas representatives and the company within the framework of administrative and logistical operations, and they have nothing to do with the mechanism of selling gas to citizens, indicating that these procedures do not include any obligation for consumers to pay in other than Syrian pounds.
Hamouda called on citizens and the media not to circulate rumors or inaccurate news, and to rely on official sources to obtain the correct information, stressing that the mechanism of supplying gas to citizens continues in accordance with the approved regulations without any change.
The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan published a news circulated in the media and social media, that all gas dependents and distributors have been informed that charging the price of a gas cylinder has become exclusively in dollars as of tomorrow, Wednesday.
