"Syrian Grains" launches an electronic platform for booking and receiving wheat

In preparation for the 2026 wheat receiving season, the Directorate of Technology and Digital Transformation at the Syrian Grains Corporation (SAGC) has reviewed a new electronic booking platform aimed at organizing and facilitating the receipt and purchase of wheat.
The Director of Technology and Digital Transformation, Nour Al-Taweel, confirmed that the platform relies on the pre-booking system, which contributes to reducing congestion at receiving centers and reducing waiting times for farmers, in addition to enabling the Corporation to know the expected quantities and verify suppliers' data and certificates of origin automatically.
Al-Taweel explained that the work mechanism is based on entering the data of suppliers through the platform, to be audited and set the dates of receipt in an orderly manner, while providing alternative solutions in case of the breakdown of the centers or the inability of farmers to attend.
For his part, the Director of the Foundation, Ahmed Al-Othman, confirmed that the launch of the platform aims to facilitate procedures and support farmers, explaining that field support teams will be present at the receiving centers to support them in completing the reservation, which contributes to accelerating the receiving process and raising the efficiency of performance.
This step comes within the government's digital transformation strategy for 2026, which aims to automate the agricultural sector and control the movement of strategic crops, ensuring the accuracy of statistical data and securing a loaf of bread.
Early preparations
The Saudi Grains Corporation continues to equip receiving centers in various governorates and secure storage requirements according to the approved standards, in preparation for a wheat season that enhances strategic stocks and supports food security, and the first of these preparations was in Deir Ezzor, where the director of the Corporation's branch, Abdul Rahman Awwad, confirmed that the entry of large areas of land into the production department, in conjunction with the good rains, enhances the expectations of a plentiful season, which prompted the Corporation to equip receiving centers and secure storage and transportation supplies to ensure the smooth flow of the Marketing Operations.
The ready-made centers so far include the concrete silo, the Ten Kilometers Center, the Euphrates Center and the Al-Mayadeen Center, with work continuing to rehabilitate the mills, raise the efficiency of production lines, and provide flour to bakeries through contracting with private mills.
2.2 million hectares of wheat and barley
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture indicate a significant expansion in the cultivation of wheat and barley this season, as the area implemented for wheat cultivation reached about 1.2 million hectares with an implementation rate of 86 percent, while the area implemented for barley reached about one million hectares, most of which is in rainfed lands.
The ministry confirms that the current season is much better than the previous season, in which rainfed areas were damaged due to the lack of rainfall and high temperatures, while the heavy rains this year contributed to the return of large areas to the production circle.
Expectations of receiving more than two million tons
The ministry expects to reach the planned production of 2.3 million tonnes of wheat, supported by high implementation rates and the expansion of cultivated areas.
She called on farmers to adopt drought-resistant varieties, stressing that the Seed Propagation Foundation provides improved and sterile seeds according to the approved variety map, noting that the Ministry has launched the Al-Qard Al-Hassan project to support wheat cultivation by providing seeds and fertilizers on easy terms, with a focus on irrigated areas.
Exceptional season
Field and official indicators agree that Syria is heading towards a promising wheat season, supported by an improved climate, the expansion of cultivated areas, and the return of large areas to the agricultural plan, in addition to intensive government efforts to secure storage, grinding, and technical support.
Wheat, as a strategic crop, appears to be regaining its position as a key pillar of national food security this year, amid expectations of abundant production that will strengthen strategic stockpiles and ease the burden on farmers and consumers.
