The Director General of the Syrian Grains Corporation, Hassan Al-Othman, revealed that the corporation is working to prepare a storage capacity of more than one million tons of wheat, with the beginning of the next purchase season in silos, silos, barns and warehouses, in order to ensure that the entire crop expected to be marketed during the current season is accommodated.
Al-Othman explained in a statement to SANA on Tuesday that the corporation will work to extend the purchase period to allow farmers to fully market their production, pointing out that work is currently underway to equip and rehabilitate grain receiving centers and provide them with expert and trained human cadres, laboratory devices and ground domes, in addition to providing electricity and solar energy, in addition to updating the procurement program.
Al-Othman pointed out that the technical reality of grain silos in Syria is generally poor, as most of the silos and silos are either completely or partially destroyed or require comprehensive rehabilitation and maintenance as a result of the practices and crimes of the former regime.
Al-Othman pointed out that the corporation is currently carrying out maintenance works for silos and purchasing centers, in addition to collecting the crop and transferring the stock to the mills with the aim of grinding it and distributing flour to bakeries, which contributes to enhancing the stability of bread production.
Al-Othman indicated that the corporation has also started rehabilitating a large part of silos and silos in the governorates of Raqqa and al-Hasakeh in preparation for the next season, in order to enhance the efficiency of inventory management, and improve the process of receiving and marketing grains.
The Syrian Grain Corporation is working to rehabilitate the infrastructure of the grain storage system in various governorates with the aim of raising storage capacity, enhancing the state's ability to receive the wheat crop from farmers, ensuring the stability of flour production and providing bread in the markets.
