Syrian government moves to dismiss Central Bank of Syria governor from post

Sources in the Syrian banking sector said that the Syrian government is moving to dismiss the governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdul Qadir Husriyah, from his duties.

The sources indicated that the director  of the Syrian Development Fund, Safwat Raslan, is the candidate to succeed Husriya, who was appointed as the governor of the bank under a decree issued by President Ahmed al-Sharaa in April 2025.

It is worth mentioning that Safwat Raslan is a former banker with German citizenship, and he currently manages the  Syrian Development Fund, which was established under the "Presidential Decree No. 112 of 2025", as an institution of an economic nature that enjoys legal personality and financial and administrative independence.

The fund aims to contribute to the reconstruction, restoration and development of infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and electricity networks, airports, ports, telecommunications networks, and others, in addition to financing multiple projects through the Al-Qard Al-Hassan.
