Syria: US mediation continues to reach a security agreement with Israel

The director of the Department of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammed al-Ahmad, said on Sunday that "American mediation is still ongoing to reach a security agreement between the Syrian and Israeli sides."
Al-Ahmad added in an interview with Jordan's Al-Mamlaka TV that "the agreement is based on the 1974 disengagement agreement and the Israelis' non-interference in Syria's internal affairs and not exploiting any internal problems to justify their entry into Syria, in addition to their withdrawal from all the areas that were entered after the fall of the former regime."
He pointed out that a draft agreement with the Israelis was reached some time ago, but "they have a technical problem with replacing the head of the negotiating team," as he put it, and said that "Syria hopes to see the seriousness of the Israelis to abide by the disengagement agreement."
A clear Syrian position
In an interview with the American network "CBS" on September 21, 2025, President Ahmed al-Shara expressed Syria's firm position towards Israel, stressing the need for Israel to retreat from any progress after December 2024 following the fall of the former regime, and that Syria has not made any provocation towards Tel Aviv since the formation of the current government, and that it will not be a platform to threaten any neighboring country.
In the same interview, al-Sharaa reiterated that the Golan is Syrian territory, and that Damascus seeks to regain it through negotiations, peace agreements, or any means that guarantees its right to it, which is still recognized by the international community.
Israel's Violations Obstruct Washington's Mediation
Syrian diplomat al-Ahmad's remarks came days after Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said that Israel's ongoing violations against Syria "hindered the American mediation aimed at reaching an agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv," calling on the United States and the international community to "support the implementation of the 1974 agreement, and to demand that Israeli forces withdraw from Syrian territory.
During a press conference in Ankara on April 9, al-Shaibani pointed out that the US mediation between Damascus and Tel Aviv, which has witnessed meetings in London and Paris in recent months, has faltered as a result of the near-daily Israeli violations that are punctuated by raids, searches of homes and the arrest of civilians.
New incursions into Quneitra countryside
The latest Israeli violations of Syrian territory took place yesterday, as an Israeli force infiltrated into Syrian territory, in a step repeated for the second time in 48 hours, as SANA reported that an Israeli force supported by two "Hummer" vehicles penetrated into the village of Ruwaihina in the central countryside and arrested one of the village's youths and took him to the nearby "Adnaniya" military base, while his fate and the reasons for his arrest are still unknown until the moment of writing.
This incident came just one day after a similar incursion in the village of Kodna in the southern countryside of Quneitra, where Israeli military vehicles raided the village and arrested two citizens, and took them to an unknown destination, amid a state of concern among the residents due to the repetition of these aggressive practices.
