Syria and Germany signed an agreement on Friday aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of disaster protection and improving Syria's ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
The agreement, signed by the Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al-Saleh and his German counterpart Alexander Dobrant in the capital Berlin, stipulates that the German Federal Technical Relief Agency "THW" will support the Syrian authorities by equipping emergency teams and rebuilding operations centers.
The agreement also provides for the development of sustainable training and organization systems in Syria to enhance volunteer participation in the face of crises.
Dobrant stressed that supporting civil protection contributes to promoting stability and reconstruction, pointing to Germany's long experience in this field, pointing to the funding of the project from the German Foreign Ministry and benefiting from previous experiences in countries such as Jordan and Tunisia.
The signing of the agreement comes as part of joint efforts to develop national capabilities in disaster management, enhancing the readiness of national teams and ensuring a faster and effective response in the event of crises or natural disasters.
Last February, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al-Saleh discussed with the United Nations Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Nathalie Faust, the files of joint cooperation related to the removal of mines and remnants of war.
The meeting addressed mechanisms for rehabilitating infrastructure as a prerequisite for ensuring a safe environment that allows for the dignified return of the displaced, in addition to recovery efforts and supporting stability in various regions of Syria.
