Syria condemns the targeting of an Emirati tanker by Iranian drones in the Strait of Hormuz

Syria has condemned the targeting of a tanker belonging to the United Arab Emirates by Iranian drones while it was crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that  the targeting constitutes a flagrant violation of international freedom of navigation and the rules of international law, and threatens the security and stability of the region and the safety of global trade routes.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed  Syria's full support for the United Arab Emirates in the face of this aggression.

The ministry expressed  Syria's solidarity with the UAE, stressing the need for the international community to intervene to stop Iranian aggressions that would increase tension in the region, calling for respect for the sovereignty of countries and ensuring the security of international sea lanes, in a way that preserves regional and international stability.

Tanker attacked and UAE condemns

An oil tanker was hit yesterday by projectiles north of the city of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, as the UAE on Monday condemned the Iranian attack that targeted  the ADNOC tanker using two drones, while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "The attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution 2817, which stressed freedom of navigation and the refusal to target commercial vessels or disrupt international sea lanes."

The ministry stressed that targeting commercial navigation and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic pressure or blackmail is considered acts of piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and poses a direct threat to the stability of the region and its peoples and to global energy security.
