Spain announces the withdrawal of its ambassador to the Israeli occupation entity

The Spanish government announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of its ambassador to the Israeli occupation entity, and decided to reduce the level of its diplomatic representation, in a move that reflects the escalation of tension between them against the backdrop of the Israeli war on Gaza.

 The Spanish newspaper El País  reported that the country's official gazette published the decision to withdraw the Spanish ambassador to Israel, and to reduce diplomatic representation to the level of chargé d'affaires, in implementation of the government's decision taken on Tuesday, explaining that this measure means officially withdrawing the head of the mission and maintaining only low representation.

Relations between Spain and the occupation entity have been strained since the latter launched the genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, as Madrid rejected this war and imposed sanctions on Israel, and tension increased after Spain recognized the State of Palestine in May 2024, which pushed relations to further deteriorate.
