Roma wins Italian capital derby with victory over Lazio

On Sunday  , May 17, Roma won the Italian capital derby against its neighbor and guest Lazio by winning two goals without reply in the match held at the Stadio Olimpico, within the competitions of the 37th round of the Italian football league.

With this result, Roma moved up to fourth place in the standings with 70 points, a direct match difference behind third-placed AC Milan, thus boosting their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League, while Lazio's balance was frozen at 51 points in ninth place.

The hosts ended the first half with an unanswered goal, scored by Gianluca Mancini in the 40th minute, when Nicolo Beselli passed a cross from a corner to be met by the Italian international defender with a powerful header into the net.

In the second half, Mancini doubled Roma's lead with a second goal, after rising high to convert Argentine Paulo Dybala's cross from a header into the net.

The final minutes saw moments of tension after a scuffle between Mancini and Daniel Maldini that led to a brawl and referee Fabio Maresca showed a red card to Roma's Wesley Franca and Lazio's Niccolò Rovela.

Ukrainian substitute Artem Dovbek almost added a third goal for Roma Wolves after coming off in the 88th minute, when he shot a powerful ball that bounced off the post.

 

Napoli defeat Pisa with a clean sheet

In other matches, Napoli beat their hosts Pisa with a clean sheet scored by Scott McTominay, Kosovar's Amir Rahmani and Denmark's Rasmus Hojlund in the 21st, 27th and 90+2nd minutes.

The "Partenoppi" raised its score to 73 points in second place, to ensure participation in the Champions League, while Pisa's balance was frozen at 18 points, at the bottom of the table, after its relegation was confirmed earlier.

Milan beat its host Genoa by two goals to one, to rise to third place with 70 points, and Genoa's balance was frozen at 41 points in fourteenth place.
