Turkey: Akcakale crossing opened to movement
The authorities of the province of Sanliurfa, southern Turkey, announced on Monday the reopening of the "Akcakale" (Tal Abyad) border crossing with Syria, to civilian traffic after 12 years of its closure.
The Turkish state issued a statement stating that the crossing entered operation as of Tuesday, under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior, which was closed in 2014 after developments in Syria, and the control of the SDF forces in the area.

The Turkish website "Kozal" quoted the AKP deputy from Sanliurfa state, Hikmet Başak, as saying, "All the procedures related to passports have already begun, after the official circular from the Ministry of Interior arrived in the state," stressing that "the step will contribute to facilitating the movement of families, trade and movement between the two sides."
Al-Turki said that "according to the directives of the Ministry of Interior, the procedures for entering and exiting Syria through the "Akcakale" land border crossing will begin today with passports.
The Akcakale crossing is one of the most important land border crossings linking Turkey and Syria through the city of Tal Abyad, and it is expected that the decision to reinstate it will contribute to the revitalization of the economic and social movement between the two countries, and provide a vital outlet for Syrian families residing in Turkey who wish to visit their cities inside Syria.
