The Saudi Council of Ministers, in its meeting held  yesterday  under the chairmanship of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, approved a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of civil aviation between the General Authority of Civil Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the General Authority of Civil Aviation of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The decision, which was taken in Jeddah, is part of the Kingdom's strategic direction to strengthen the international air transport network, with similar memorandums of understanding with civil aviation authorities in China, Georgia, Liberia, Seychelles and the Republic of the Comoros.

Executive steps to launch "Fly Nas Syria"

In a related context, the President of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Eng. Omar Al-Hosari, discussed with the CEO of Saudi Flynas, Bandar bin Abdulrahman Al-Muhanna, the executive procedures for the establishment of the airline "Fly Nas Syria".

During a meeting held via video conferencing, with the participation of the Saudi Assistant Minister of Investment, Abdullah bin Ali Al-Dabikhi, the timetable for the executive outputs and the completion of legal and regulatory requirements was agreed. The project aims to launch the new company in accordance with the highest international standards, in a way that contributes to the modernization of the Syrian air transport sector and the expansion of its network regionally and internationally.

Resumption of direct flights between Riyadh and Damascus

As a culmination of these understandings, the two sides announced the resumption of direct flights between Riyadh and Damascus as of next Sunday, April 19.

This step will stimulate travel and economic exchange, and support the joint investment environment between the two brotherly countries.

Parallel Syrian-Jordanian Moves

At the level of regional cooperation, Damascus witnessed Syrian-Jordanian talks to enhance cooperation in the aviation sector. The President of the Syrian General Authority of Aviation, Omar Al-Hosari, met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Jordan in Damascus, Sufyan Al-Qudah.

The meeting focused on discussing the terms of future agreements aimed at raising the efficiency of air connectivity and facilitating the movement of trade and mobility.
Al-Hosari stressed that these moves come as part of a comprehensive plan to restore the vital role of the Syrian aviation sector and develop its infrastructure through technical and technical partnerships with neighboring countries.
