Qatar: The security of "Hormuz" is a regional responsibility. And we have to live with Iran

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Majid al-Ansari stressed that Iran is a neighboring country and a formula must be found to coexist with it, but at the same time stressed Doha's rejection of attacks that targeted vital and civilian facilities in the region, considering that they "have crossed many red lines and pose a threat to everyone."

Al-Ansari said the targeting of energy facilities represents a "dangerous step and a clear transgression", noting that Qatar has lodged complaints with international organisations about these attacks, warning that the continued escalation "will not be in anyone's interest".

Hormuz security. Shared responsibility

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, al-Ansari explained that the issue is "regional and not tied to one party", stressing that the security of navigation in the strait requires consensus among the countries of the region due to its global repercussions, adding that the leaders of the Gulf countries are in constant communication for co-ordination and that the region "must be part of any solution or agreement related to its security".

He stressed that the threats to close the strait represent a direct threat to global energy security, stressing that Qatar is moving with its international partners to ensure the stability of supply chains.

Prevent 90% of attacks

In a related context, Al-Ansari revealed that the Qatari armed forces "proved that Qatar is not an easy target", noting that they have thwarted more than 90% of the attacks on the country, stressing that defense partnerships, especially with the United States, have played an important role in protecting Qatar's resources and enhancing the security of the region.

Mediation and De-escalation Support

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman welcomed the diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, stressing that "approaching the negotiating table is in the interest of the region." He noted Doha's support for Pakistan's mediation efforts and expressed his country's hope that it will contribute to achieving peace.

Position on developments in Lebanon

Regarding the situation in Lebanon, al-Ansari stressed the need to respect his sovereignty, considering that the attacks and incursions in the Lebanese arena "violate international law" and that talking about the establishment of a buffer zone is a "clear violation" of international norms.
