Al-Hasakah Deputy Governor Ahmed Al-Hilali confirmed that the presidential team is following with interest the protests that took place in areas in the countryside of Al-Hasakah, stressing that the service demands of the people reach directly to the Syrian leadership and the concerned government agencies.

Al-Hilali said that the challenges facing Al-Hasakah province require "institutional work and continuous efforts in light of the transitional phase that the country is going through," noting that the completion of the process of merging institutions and activating state institutions are among the most prominent files presented during the current stage.

He added that the province will soon announce the formation of the executive office of Al-Hasakah province, which will follow up on service and development files and work to accelerate the pace of achievement and address the problems facing the population.

Al-Hilali explained that the success of the integration process and the reactivation of state institutions must be directly reflected on the lives of citizens and the level of services provided to them, stressing the continuation of work to address the service challenges in the governorate and respond to the demands of the people.

Protests against the deteriorating living conditions in the Al-Hol area

Dozens of protesters from the towns and villages of Reef al-Hol in the east of al-Hasakah province gathered on Monday and Tuesday (June 8 and 9,  2026), where they blocked the main road and prevented the passage of oil tankers, in an escalatory step that reflects the extent of popular dissatisfaction with the deterioration of basic services in an area that is one of Syria's richest regions with oil wealth.

A local source told "Syrian News" that the protest of the residents came as a result of the worsening of the drinking water crisis and the rise in the prices of water tankers to unprecedented levels, at a time when the residents are suffering from a severe shortage of fuel and the rise in the prices of domestic and agricultural diesel, despite the daily passage of oil tankers through their villages towards other areas.

The protesters expressed their anger over the decline in health services and the lack of necessary equipment and cadres in the medical centers in Al-Hol district, in addition to the long power cuts and the lack of job opportunities for young people.

The protest participants, especially the people of the northern countryside of al-Hol and the town of um Hujira, confirmed that they will continue to block the road and prevent the passage of tankers until the concerned authorities respond to their demands and take concrete measures to improve their living and service conditions.

Wave of escalating protests

For several days, the entire countryside of Al-Hasakah province  has been witnessing  an escalating wave of protests, as in the town of Ghazila, residents completely blocked the main road leading to the town, using burning tires to prevent traffic.

Local sources told "Syrian News" that the residents' movement came in protest against the significant rise in the prices of basic materials and fuel, in addition to the widespread unemployment and the lack of job opportunities for young people.

In the city of Al-Shadadi, south of Al-Hasakah, the city witnessed calls to organize demonstrations and sit-ins in "Freedom Square", which coincided with the partial closure of some routes, where protesters are demanding the restoration of basic services, especially electricity and fuel, in addition to providing job opportunities and improving the deteriorating service reality.

In the areas of Al-Malikiyah (Dirk) and Tal Brak in the north and east of the governorate, angry protests took place during which traffic was obstructed, rejecting the government's latest price to buy the wheat crop, as farmers consider the announced price "unfair" and does not cover the high production costs, which prompted them to escalate.

The Al-Obeid road, southwest of Al-Hasakah, witnessed an open sit-in for farmers in the areas of "um Midfa" and "Zain Al-Mubaraj", which included cutting off the vital road in front of oil tankers in protest against the sudden halt in the distribution of agricultural fuel allocations and the delay in harvesting supplies and tractors, which threatens the harvest season.
