President Sharia discusses with Barak the situation in Syria and the region

President Ahmed al-Sharaa received at the People's Palace in Damascus the US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barak, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Syria and the region, ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, in addition to files of common interest.

President Al-Sharaa met with  Barak on the sidelines of his  participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey on the 16th of last month  , where they discussed regional developments and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in order to enhance security and peace in the region.

Barak: Syria enters a new phase

 Last Sunday,  Barak commented on  the recent  release of 232 SDF affiliates in Al-Hasakah province, saying that the historic transformation that Syria is witnessing is entering a new phase characterized by strengthening stability, pointing out that the continuation of communication channels between the Syrian government and the SDF reflects the importance of adopting constructive dialogue at this sensitive stage.

Barak explained on the "X" platform that this continuous engagement between the two sides is an indication of the common will to support the path of stability and preserve Syria's unity, in order to ensure a more secure future for all Syrians.

In  May 2025, the administration  of  US President Donald Trump appointed Barack  as a US special envoy to Syria, in addition to his work as his country's ambassador to Turkey.
