President Al-Sharaa during a press conference : Syria's stability is a high security interest

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a press conference in the German capital, Berlin, and President Al-Shara said during the press conference:
On my behalf and on behalf of the Syrian people, I express my deep gratitude to the German leadership and people, and we will not forget how you opened your doors to one million Syrians when their paths were narrow and the doors were closed without them, you gave our children the opportunity to learn, work and rebuild their lives.
Syria, with its civilizational dimension and its important location, represents an ideal opportunity for a Syrian-European partnership led by Germany, and Syria is returning to the world and Europe today with greater strength and firm will.
We have 1.3 million Syrians, including 6,000 doctors working in German hospitals, and more than a quarter of a million people who contribute to the German economy.
We are working with our partners in the German government to establish a circular migration programme that allows Syrian talent to contribute to the reconstruction of their homeland without giving up the lives they have built in Germany to those who wish to stay.
Our vision for the new Syria is based on the principle of uncompromising sovereignty, which is the unity of the Syrian territory and the sovereignty of the state over its entire territory, and we will not accept states within the state, and we will not allow the presence of any weapons outside the framework of the national military and security establishment.
Building a strong and stable Syria requires limiting power and decision to the legitimate state institutions alone to ensure the security of all Syrians without exception.
On the security front, I would like to emphasize that the stability of Syria and the safety of its citizens is a high security interest, and the fight against terrorism and the eradication of the cross-border Captagon smuggling networks is a top priority that we are working on in a serious partnership with the international community.
We follow with great concern the military escalation in our region, and we condemn in the strongest terms any infringement on the security and sovereignty of the brotherly Arab countries, and we categorically reject making our region a stage for settling scores.
We condemn the Israeli aggressions and attacks on Syrian territory, the violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the occupation of new territories, and we call on the international community to carry out its moral and legal responsibilities.
Today we in Syria are laying the foundations of a new state, a state of law and institutions after decades of tyranny that has harnessed sectarianism and terror as tools of governance.
Syria today needs a modern constitution that protects the citizen and preserves his dignity, and we look to the future with the mentality of a state that has the elements of advancement.
What we are putting forward today is a long-term strategic investment model that opens the door for the German market and European economies to participate in reconstruction.
Syria is a country with diverse cultures and customs, and we enshrined the principle of law at the expense of narrow personal interests, and through the law and the constitution, everyone gets their rights in the Syrian state.
Military escalation in the region entails significant risks to energy supplies and prices in the world, in addition to the risks of its expansion, and we reiterate our condemnation of Iran's targeting of the Arab Gulf countries.
German Chancellor: Establishment of a Joint Working Committee with Syria
For his part, German Chancellor Merz said: "A year ago, the Syrian people were liberated from a dictatorial regime, and the images of the liberation of prisoners from the cellars of torture and the chants of joy in the streets left a deep impression on our souls and their echo is still to this day."
He added: " Germany stood by the Syrian people against the Assad dictatorship, and a million Syrians have taken refuge in it, and now the phase of reconstruction of the new Syria has begun, and I am sure that the Syrians who took refuge in Germany want to rebuild their homeland."
The German Chancellor explained that economic growth and stability in Syria are crucial pillars for the success of reconstruction, and Syrians returning from Germany will play an important role in this with the experiences they have gained.
He announced the establishment of a joint working committee with Syria, which will begin its work in the coming days, and there will be visits by German delegations to Damascus.
