President Al-Shara inaugurates Al-Rastan Bridge after the end of its maintenance

On Thursday evening, June 4, President Ahmed al-Shara inaugurated the Rastan Bridge in the northern countryside of Homs, after the completion of its rehabilitation and maintenance work, with the aim of restoring transport between the areas of central, northern and southern Syria, after years of damage to infrastructure as a result of military operations.
In a speech during the opening of the bridge, President Al-Sharaa said that the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the ousted regime represents "the address of the new Syria", stressing the state's commitment to continue reconstruction efforts and rebuild the country.
He explained that the bombing of the bridge during the "deterrence of aggression" battle was an indication that its end was approaching, pointing out that the regime sought at the time to separate the central and southern regions, but bypassing the bridge was the beginning of its last moments.

He added that the Rastan Bridge has received special importance, and that it was stressed that the continuation of progress despite its targeting was stressed, and stressed that the rehabilitation of bridges and roads, including the bridges of Al-Siya, Al-Mayadeen and Raqqa, will be one of the most prominent priorities of the next phase.
The cost of the project exceeds two million dollars
Al-Rastan Bridge is one of the most important vital bridges on the Damascus-Aleppo highway, as it serves densely populated areas, and constitutes a key corridor for commercial movement and the transport of goods between a number of agricultural and industrial areas in Homs and Hama governorates.
The rehabilitation project was implemented by the Syrian Civil Defence in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the support of the United Nations Humanitarian Fund for Syria (SHF), as part of efforts to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure in the country.
An assessment by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in March 2025 revealed the presence of a hole between one and a half meters deep as a result of previous shelling, in addition to surface landings and cracks in the tar shirt, which necessitated the implementation of comprehensive restoration works to ensure the safety of traffic, noting that the cost of the rehabilitation project exceeded two million dollars, according to the Planning and International Cooperation Commission
Reconstruction of the Political Bridge in Deir Ezzor begins
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the launch of the construction and rehabilitation project of Al-Siasiya Bridge in Deir Ezzor Governorate, implemented by the Syrian Corporation for Building and Construction and supervised by the Ministry of Transport, represented by the General Corporation for Road Transport, provided that the project works will continue for 12 months.
The ministry said in a post on its Telegram channel on Wednesday, June 3, that the political bridge is one of the vital and strategic projects in Deir Ezzor province, due to its role in reconnecting the city of Deir Ezzor with the northern countryside and the northern regions of the country, as it constitutes one of the most important axes of movement between the two banks of the Euphrates River.
She added that the destruction of the bridge over the past years has led to the interruption of communication between large parts of the governorate, which prompted residents to rely on primitive river ships and ferries for transportation, which exposed them to multiple risks, including drowning accidents.
The Euphrates River floods also contributed to the destruction of temporary crossings and earthen bridges that were built to secure crossings, making it more difficult to move between the two banks of the river, the ministry said.
