Preliminary lists for the People's Assembly elections in Al-Hasakah and Ayn al-Arab

The Supreme Committee for the Elections of the Syrian People's Assembly has issued preliminary lists of the names of members of the electoral bodies in the electoral districts in Al-Hasakah province, in addition to the district of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, as part of the procedures to complete the electoral process for the People's Assembly in accordance with the temporary electoral system adopted in Syria.
The preliminary lists included the electoral districts in Al-Hasakah, Qamishli and Al-Malikiya, in addition to the district of Ain al-Arab in Aleppo countryside, based on the provisions of the Constitutional Declaration and Decrees No. 66 and No. 143 of 2025, in addition to the outputs of the work of the subcommittees that prepared the preliminary lists in those areas.
According to the figures contained in the announcement, the number of members of the electoral body in the al-Hasakah constituency reached 172 members, while the number in al-Malikiyah reached 104 members, in Qamishli 251 members, and in the district of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) it included 128 members.
Final Audit Phase and Availability of Appeals
According to the decision issued by the Supreme Committee, the announced lists will undergo a final audit phase before they are officially approved, in preparation for determining the electoral quorum for each electoral district according to the temporary system on which the current parliamentary elections are organized.
The decision allowed those wishing to object to the names included in the lists, by submitting appeals to the Appeals Committee in the governorate during Monday and Tuesday, corresponding to May 18 and 19, provided that these appeals are examined in accordance with the approved legal procedures.
The issuance of the preliminary lists comes more than a week after the announcement of the formation of subcommittees for the electoral process in the northeastern regions of Syria, in a step that is considered a continuation of the executive procedures related to the formation of the electoral bodies that will be responsible for selecting the members of the People's Assembly.
Supreme Committee: Elections are far from quotas
In a related context, the spokesman of the High Committee for the Elections of the Syrian People's Assembly, Nawar Najmeh, said that the electoral process is "far from the principle of quotas", considering that fair representation of all components of the Syrian people "will be guaranteed at the level of competencies".
In a statement to SANA on Sunday, Najmeh added that the political quota system "has its advantages, but it carries negatives related to national integration and strengthening the sense of belonging," noting that the electoral bodies "represent a fair mirror of the Syrian social fabric and the existing competencies."
The role of the Supreme Committee in influencing the level of representation within the People's Assembly "ends at the stage of forming the electoral bodies", he said, adding that "fair and transparent ballot boxes are what determine the final results of the electoral process".
