"Our pulse is one." Medical Campaign to Perform 600 Free Surgeries in Syria

The activities of the "Our One Pulse" medical and volunteer campaign for the summer of 2026 continued in several Syrian governorates, which aims to provide urgent medical care and perform hundreds of quality surgeries for sick citizens completely free of charge.

The Syrian Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Syrian-German Medical Association and the Pioneers Foundation for Cooperation and Development, announced the launch of this broad humanitarian campaign, which targets nine governorates of Syria, with the participation of a group of doctors and specialized medical staff from inside and outside Syria to provide technical and material support to the local treatment system.

In a statement issued today, Friday, July 17, the Ministry explained that the campaign aims in its current plan to perform more than 600 complex surgeries and interventions, in addition to organizing 10 specialized workshops and training courses to qualify local cadres and raise their technical and practical efficiency in the face of increasing medical challenges.

Official medical reports revealed that more than 70 doctors from various specialties participated in this voluntary initiative, with the support of an integrated team of medical and technical assistants who work around the clock to provide the necessary support and follow-up to patients in operating rooms and hospital departments.

Campaign Details and Multiple Medical Specialties

The Syrian Ministry of Health has identified the medical and surgical specialties participating in this broad campaign, as it includes the fields of general surgery, cardiac surgery, and interventional cardiac surgery, in addition to vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, and urological surgery.

The Ministry pointed out the participation of specialists and medical assistants in other vital and sensitive fields, such as maxillofacial surgery, eye surgery (ophthalmology), diseases and surgery of the ear, nose and throat (otolary), and neurosurgery, as well as internal and internal neurological diseases, to ensure the widest possible coverage of the incoming medical conditions.

The Syrian-German Medical Association indicated that the diversity of specialties provides medical teams with the opportunity to intervene immediately to treat chronic and difficult diseases that patients have been suffering from the hardship of securing their treatment as a result of high financial costs or lack of medical equipment in some regional centers.

Focus on Aleppo city and permanent expansion of activity

A member of the board of directors of the Syrian-German Medical Association, Rafid Ramadan, said in special statements to Syria Now that the medical teams affiliated with the association and the ministry are focusing their current field efforts in the city of Aleppo, as part of the activities of a parallel local campaign called "Aleppo Six All".

Surgeries and medical interventions are currently taking place inside the corridors of the University Hospital in Aleppo, where work is focused on the treatment of some complex heart diseases, including performing microarterial interventions and implanting heart batteries for patients suffering from severe heart failure and requiring intensive care, Ramadan said.

The member of the Board of Directors pointed out that the "Our One Pulse" campaign was actually launched at the beginning of the current year 2026, and has so far achieved important achievements by conducting a good number of successful surgeries, pointing out that the current intensive activity in the city of Aleppo will gradually extend to the rest of the targeted Syrian governorates according to the logistical schedules set in advance.

Targeting Needy Groups and Ongoing Previous Initiatives

Al-Ramadan stressed that the campaign focuses primarily on low-income patients, who cannot afford the high financial expenses resulting from these surgeries in private hospitals, stressing at the same time that medical teams are still unable to cover all recorded cases due to the huge number of patients and widespread poverty in the country.

The Syrian Ministry of Health stated that this campaign is part of a long path of joint humanitarian cooperation, as the ministry, the association and partner organizations had previously launched a previous version of the "Our Pulse is One" campaign in August 2025, which included rehabilitating entire medical departments and providing them with equipment in key governorates such as Damascus and Aleppo.

The Ministry explained that the summer period of 2025 also witnessed the launch of the "Shifa 2" campaign in cooperation with international and local associations, which resulted in more than a thousand free surgeries in several governorates, with the participation of about 130 doctors, including Syrian expatriate doctors in European countries who contributed to providing their expertise to support the national medical system.
