Obama: We got rid of 97% of Iran's uranium without killing people

Former U.S. President Barack Obama said he succeeded in reducing Iran's enriched uranium without the need to launch a single missile, kill a large number of people, or close the Strait of Hormuz.

In an interview with the CBC, Obama said, "We did it without firing a single missile. We got rid of 97 percent of their enriched uranium, there is no doubt that the operation worked, and we didn't have to kill a large number of people or close a strait."

On Monday, Trump accused Iran of practicing deception against the United States and the world for 47 years, arguing that Tehran made its biggest gains during the administration of former US President Barack Obama.

Trump said Obama had given Iran a strong lifeline through massive financial inflows that included hundreds of billions of dollars, as well as $1.7 billion in cash.

Trump also accused the previous US administration of abandoning allies and siding with Iran, adding that Tehran has exploited the weakness of US leadership for political and military gains over decades, and continued, "The Iranians will not continue to laugh at the United States."

Obama: Trump doesn't respect human dignity

Obama has attacked Trump's policies and his bellicose tone on many occasions, commenting on Trump's  threats in early April to wipe out Iranian civilization, saying, "I believe that American leadership must reflect a genuine respect for human dignity and honor, not only within our borders but also beyond it. This is an integral part of the responsibility of leadership. If we don't express our core values, if we don't acknowledge that there are innocent people living under bad governments who deserve our attention, if we don't avoid arrogance and pure self-interest, the world could collapse in very bad ways."

In an interview with  The New Yorker, he revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump resorted to the same arguments that he tried to persuade him more than a decade ago to push him to launch a war on Iran.

Obama questioned whether Netanyahu, after successfully convincing Trump to strike Iran, had "got what he wanted," adding, "But is this ultimately best for the Israeli people? I doubt that."

His skepticism extended to the U.S. interest as well: "And do I think it's in the interest of the United States? I doubt that as well," he said, adding, "I think the record of my disagreements with Mr. Netanyahu speaks for itself."

Obama celebrates the loss of Trump's ally and Netanyahu

Former US President Barack Obama on Monday  (April 13th) celebrated the results of Hungary's parliamentary elections on Sunday, which were won by the opposition.

Obama said in a post via X that the opposition's victory was "a victory for democracy," adding, "The opposition's victory in Hungary yesterday, as was the case in the Polish elections in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not only in Europe but around the world."

"Above all, it is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people – and a reminder to all of us to continue to strive for justice, equality and the rule of law," he added.
