Morocco's 2026 World Cup squad announced

Morocco national team coach Mohamed Wehbe announced the official list of the "Atlas Lions" to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which witnessed the presence of prominent names in addition to some developments.

Sofiane Amrabet was on the list with newcomer Ayoub Bouadi, and Eintracht Frankfurt's Ayoub Maimouni received his first call-up to the national team.

 Wehbe stressed in his statements that the lack of time prevented him from building all the tactical details he aspires to, explaining: "We will focus on the basics that make the team more effective."

Wehbe, who took over as coach of the Moroccan national team from Walid Rekraki on March 5, added: "I don't want to burden the players with too many instructions so that I don't lose them the freedom to play and highlight their potential."

The Moroccan coach pointed out that the technical staff followed up on a large number of players before settling on the final squad, pointing out that the recent camp helped him evaluate the candidate elements within the playing system he seeks to apply.

Goalkeeping:

Yassin Bounou, Mounir Al-Mohammadi, Ahmed Reda Teknaouti.

Defense:

Achraf Hakimi, Nasir Mazraoui, Nayef Akurd, Shadi Riyad, Issa Diop, Badreddine Halhal, Youssef Belamri, Anas Salaheddine, Zakaria Al-Wahidi.

Midfield:

Azzedine Ounahi, Sofiane Amrabet, Bilal Al-Khannous, Ismail Sibari, Nael El-Ainaoui, Ayoub Bouadi, Samir Al-Marabet, Yassine Jassim.

Attack:

Ibrahim Diaz, Abdel Samad Al-Zalzouli, Shams Al-Din Talebi, Sofiane Rahimi, Ayoub Al-Kaabi, Ayoub Al-Maimouni.

The Moroccan national team coach also selected a reserve list that included goalkeeper Mehdi Al-Harrar, along with Amine Sebai and Marwan Saadane.

 

Morocco defeats Burundi by five goals

The Moroccan national team achieved a wide victory over its Burundian counterpart with a clean sheet, in the friendly match that brought them together on Tuesday evening in the capital, Rabat, as part of the preparations of the "Atlas Lions" to compete in the finals of the 2026 World Cup.

The coach of the Moroccan national team, Mohamed Wehbe, decided to hold the match behind closed doors and away from the media and fans, as part of the technical and tactical preparations for the World Cup, while ensuring a high atmosphere of concentration within the group.

The first half of the match ended in a negative draw, before the Moroccan national team appeared in a different face during the second round, as it rained down on Burundi's net with five goals.

The Atlas Lions' goals were scored by Ayoub Kaabi, who signed a brace, along with Taoufik Ben Tayeb, while Sofiane Benjedida added two more goals.

The Moroccan national team will compete in the World Cup in Group C, along with Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.

Morocco's national football team will play in the FIFA  World Cup 2026 in Group C, along with Brazil, Scotland and Haiti, in one of the most competitive groups of the tournament.

Morocco will play its first match against Brazil on Saturday, June 13 at 23:00 p.m. at MetLife Stadium – New York/New Jersey, meet Scotland on Friday, June 19,  2026 at 23:00 p.m. at Gillette Stadium – Boston and conclude the group stage matches against Haiti on Wednesday, June 24,  2026 at 23:00 Evening at Mercedes-Benz Stadium – AtlantaA
