Meta Launches Air-to-Air Typing Feature through its Smart Glasses

Meta has announced the launch of a revolutionary new package of advanced technology features for its smart glasses "Meta Ray-Ban Display", including the availability of the "Hand Gesture" feature to the general public, in addition to a number of exceptional updates that included the development of video recording mechanisms, simultaneous translation, and the expansion of support for external applications, representing a quantum leap in the wearable market.

The technology   mainly  relies on the neural bracelet attached to the glasses, which reads and interprets impulses and movements of the hand and fingers with extreme precision, and then converts them motorally and instantaneously into software commands to write texts within various chat applications.

Flexible software integration and platform scaling

The Write in Air feature supports a wide range of the world's most popular instant messaging apps, including Meta ecosystem apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, as well as full compatibility with other messaging apps running on Android and iOS.

Meta first showed off this dazzling technology at the initial announcement of the glasses, but it was blocked and was not available at the time of the official launch in the market.

At the beginning of this year, the company began testing it on a limited scale through the beta program for WhatsApp and Messenger users, before deciding to officially and permanently roll it out to all users after the success of the testing period.

Hybrid Photography and Cross-Continental Interpretation

The updates are not limited to body language, but the glasses also introduced an innovative feature called "Display Recording", which allows the recording of hybrid videos that efficiently combine what the user sees on the internal lens screen with what they actually see in the real world around them, supported by environmental sound capture, to create a photographic experience that integrates augmented reality with traditional content.

Meta has also expanded support for this feature across the United States, as well as live coverage of major global cities such as London, Paris, and Rome.

The feature has been integrated directly into WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, as well as support for simultaneous translation of voice messages read in Direct Messages (DMs) via the Instagram platform.

In a strategic move aimed at building an integrated software community, Meta has opened the Developer Preview program for the glasses for developers, allowing them to develop web applications directly to work on the system, paving the way for the expansion of the Ray-Ban smart glasses digital ecosystem and make it a standalone platform in the near future.
