Manchester United boost their European hopes with an important win over Brentford

Manchester United kept their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League alive after a 2-1 win over Brentford in their Premier League matchday 34 on Monday, April 27.
Manchester United raised its score to 61 points, to occupy third place in the standings, reducing the gap with Liverpool, which is in fourth place, to 3 points, while still 9 points away from runners-up Manchester City.
Brentford, on the other hand, froze at 48 points in ninth place, to receive a blow in their race to the top of the tables.
Brazilian Casemiro opened the scoring early for Manchester United in the 11th minute, before Benjamin Sisko extended the lead with a second goal in the 43rd minute, to end the first half with a clean sheet.
In the second half, Brentford tried to get back into the game, and Matthias Jansen reduced the deficit by scoring his team's only goal in the 87th minute, but it was not enough to avoid losing.
The win gives Manchester United a boost in their fight for Champions League qualification, with the season approaching its decisive stages, and now need two points from four games to qualify for next season's Champions League regardless of the opponents' results.
Under new manager Carrick, Manchester United have played 16 games, winning 11 of them, drawing three and losing just two.
