Manchester United appoints Michael Carrick as manager until 2028

Manchester United have appointed Michael Carrick as a two-year first-team permanent manager, following a successful spell in charge of the Red Devils as interim manager in the Premier League.
The English club announced in an official statement on Friday (May 22nd): "We are pleased to announce that Michael Carrick will continue in his role as head coach of the men's first team, after signing a new contract that runs until 2028."
Outstanding results in a short period of time
Carrick, 44, took over on an interim basis following the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January and quickly put the team back on track to lead them to the Champions League thanks to a string of impressive results.
Manchester United finished the season in third place in the Premier League under Carrick, after a thrilling win over Nottingham Forest last Sunday, with 11 wins in 16 games he has overseen.
United have amassed 36 points since Carrick took over on January 13, the highest of any club in the Premier League during that period, putting them on a shortlist of six candidates for the league's best manager award this season.
Carrick saves United after Amorim
The English club was in turmoil upon Amorim's departure, with negative results and disagreements over tactics and line-up strained the relationship between the Portuguese coach and club officials during the final months of his 14-month tenure.
Carrick also took over Manchester United on an interim three-game sac in 2021 following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and has made a positive impression on and off the pitch.
Carrick, a former England midfielder, spent 12 years at Old Trafford as a player, during which he won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
