The raid targeted the vicinity of the former State Security branch inthe city of Shahba, amid the intensive flight of war drones in the skies of the area, and the network reported that the sounds of ambulances were heard after the strike, with reports that a residential building near the target site was hit.

The shelling was accompanied by heavy machine gun fire in the vicinity of Shahba, where local sources said that members of the National Guard targeted drones that were likely belonging to the Jordanian army, which were assessing and monitoring the effects of the raids and their results on the ground.

On December 24, 2025, the Jordanian army announced the "neutralization" of a number of traders leading smuggling operations, confirming in an official statement that it had destroyed factories and factories used by these groups as staging points towards Jordanian territory, based on accurate intelligence information and in coordination with unnamed regional partners.

These strikes coincide with the continuation of attempts to smuggle drugs from Syria to Jordan, as the Jordanian Armed Forces announced on October 16, 2025, that they had thwarted a smuggling operation through a plastic shell launched from the Syrian side, after receiving prior intelligence, in addition to the foiling of an attempt by the forces of the Eastern Military Region to bring large quantities of narcotics into the  country.

In a sign of growing security coordination between Damascus and Amman, the anti-narcotics departments of the two countries announced, in a joint statement on October 5, 2025, the foiling of 7 smuggling attempts across the common border, which resulted in the seizure of about one million narcotic pills and the arrest of a number of those involved.

The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed at the time that the cooperation included the exchange of intelligence and the coordination of field efforts, which led to the dismantling of organized networks active in smuggling.

In their statements, the two sides stressed that the fight against narcotics "is not only a security task, but also a humanitarian and moral responsibility that requires broad regional and international cooperation," noting that joint operations will continue in light of the escalation of smuggling network activity on Syria's southern border.

What is the relationship of the National Guard?

The new raid sites  in Sweida reopen the file of the factions controlling parts of the governorate, especially after the formation of the so-called "National Guard" following the events of July 2025, although the Jordanian army did not announce the targeting of a specific group, confirming that arms and drug dealers were targeted.

According  to Syrian sources, the Jordanian raids included sites in Shahba, Busan, Arman, um al-Rumman and Melh, areas where the National Guard militants  , which is considered the military strike force in Sweida in the absence of any military presence of the Damascus government in the province.

On April 25, the "Sweida 24" network reported on the outbreak of an armed dispute within factions affiliated with the "National Guard" over the smuggling of a shipment of drugs in the vicinity of the town of Al-Qarya in the south of Suwayda.

The network reported at the time that the armed dispute came in the context of the spread of the drug phenomenon in the areas controlled by the National Guard in Sweida, in light of accusations of the involvement of some of its factions in drug smuggling networks across the southern border, and reports of the existence of several factories for the manufacture of narcotics in the area.
