Israeli army storms Nablus and Qalandia refugee camp and confiscates Palestinian homes
On Monday, April 27, 2026, the Israeli army stormed the Qalandia Palestinian refugee camp north of Jerusalem, and seized Palestinian homes after evacuating them from their residents, turning some of them into detention and interrogation centers.
Witnesses said the camp had witnessed one of the largest Israeli military operations since the beginning of the year, after large Israeli army forces stormed the camp and the outskirts of the towns of Kafr Aqab and al-Ram, and carried out a series of raids targeting Palestinian homes.
According to local testimonies, the forces forcibly evacuated a number of houses before seizing them and turning some of them into detention and field investigation centers, in a move that sparked tension among residents.
Witnesses said that the forces carried out a large-scale arrest campaign against liberated prisoners and relatives of Palestinian prisoners, while informing residents that the operation would last about 24 hours, coinciding with the intensive flight of drones in the skies of the camp, and the appearance of video clips showing doors being taken off and raiding houses amid a heavy military deployment in the alleys and main entrances.
This operation comes in the context of a continuous escalation in the areas of North Jerusalem, where incursions and raids have been repeated since the outbreak of the war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, and the accompanying tightening of security on the vicinity of the occupied capital.
A new incursion into the city of Nablus
In the northern West Bank, IDF forces stormed the city of Nablus through the Murabba checkpoint, and deployed to the neighborhoods of al-Makhfiyah and Ras al-Ain, before infiltrating the Old City and carrying out raids and searches.
Local Palestinian sources reported that the forces were deployed in the historic alleys of the Old City, at a time when there was no immediate information about casualties or arrests.
Nablus is one of the most frequent cities in the military operations that Israel claims target armed groups, and official Palestinian data indicate that since October 2023, the West Bank has witnessed a significant escalation in military operations and settler attacks, which led to the death of at least 1154 Palestinians and the injury of about 11,750, in addition to the arrest of about 22,000.
This incursion comes in light of the escalating tension in the cities of the northern West Bank, where confrontations and arrests are frequent, while Palestinian human rights organizations talk about the policy of "continuous security pressure" adopted by Israel in areas classified as centers of resistance activity.
Israel admits its failure to protect the settlement of Holit
In a separate context, the Israeli army announced the completion of an operational investigation into the attack on the settlement of "Holit" adjacent to the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, which marked a turning point in the Israeli security scene.
According to the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, the investigation, which lasted about 18 months and included recordings, videos and field testimony, concluded that the army failed to defend the settlement despite its forces reaching its vicinity during the attack.
The attack killed 13 civilians, kidnapped four Israelis and two foreign workers, and detained others for hours inside the kibbutz, before reinforcements that arrived later helped stop the attackers' advance.
The investigation pointed to the participation of multiple combat units that lost three of their members during the clashes, while security and political officials considered what happened to be a widespread intelligence and military failure.
This report comes as part of a series of similar investigations conducted by the army on other settlements that were subjected to the same attack, at a time when Israel continues its war on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 8, 2023, and resulted in the death of more than 72,000 Palestinians and the wounding of 172,000 in two years, amid a suffocating humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the blockade and Israel's repudiation of the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
