Israeli army kills Palestinian and shells Rafah and Khan Younis neighborhoods

On Monday morning, May 4, a Palestinian was killed by the Israeli army in the northern Gaza Strip, as part of the daily violations of the ceasefire agreement that has been in force since October 10, 2025.

A medical source at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City said that the body   of a 44-year-old Palestinian arrived at the hospital as a result of Israeli army gunfire in the Al-Atatreh area, west of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to local sources, the Atatra area is outside the scope of the army's deployment and control under  the ceasefire agreement signed two years after  a genocide started by Israel on October 8,  2023, which left more than 72,000 dead, more than 172,000 Palestinians wounded, and massive destruction of 90% of civilian infrastructure.

The sources indicated that Israeli artillery vehicles bombarded, at dawn, the eastern neighborhoods of Gaza City, coinciding with the Israeli navy targeting the coast of the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip with bullets and missiles, without reporting any casualties.

Since its entry into force, Israeli violations of the agreement have resulted in the death of 830 Palestinians and the wounding of 2,345 others, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

UN rapporteur: Israel is capitalizing on Greece's concerns

The UN special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, said that Israel is exploiting Greece's fears and feelings of insecurity to achieve its own interests.

This came during her participation in an event in the Greek capital, Athens, on Sunday , May 3, 2026, to introduce her book "When the World Sleeps – Stories, Words and Wounds of Palestine", where she reviewed the latest developments related to Palestine.

Albanese added that Greece believes it has chosen to stand with Israel to ensure peace in the face of external threats, adding: "But Israel has chosen you, and it will use your fears and mistrust to serve its own interests, and this is what it is doing."

Israel uses the Palestinian territories as a "laboratory" to test its weapons and spyware before marketing them to other countries.

"Anyone who makes arms or goods deals between Israel and Greece must be held accountable. Let's look for a way to do that, like parliamentary investigations and investigative journalism."

Greece has recently witnessed a wide controversy in political and media circles due to the Greek authorities' silence regarding the Israeli attack on the Global Resilience Flotilla in international waters a few miles away from Greek territorial waters.

Rights Organizations: Athens Participated in the Interception of the Gaza Flotilla

The Greek government's handling of the interception incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties, led by Syriza and the Socialist Party, as well as former minister Yanis Varoufaks, who accused the government of "collusion" or "inability" to protect sea lanes and activists from what they described as "Israeli piracy."

Greek civil and human rights organizations, most notably the "March to Gaza-Greece", reported that the Israeli attack on the Steadfastness Flotilla was carried out with direct cooperation from Greece, and activists who participated in the flotilla criticized what they described as "official silence" towards the attacks carried out by Israeli drones against their ships in areas close to Greece before they were controlled, considering that Athens has "abandoned its responsibilities" in protecting civilians within its expanded maritime domain.

The Greek government justified its non-intervention to prevent the Israeli interception process by saying that the incident occurred in international waters, and therefore outside its direct jurisdiction, even though the area falls within the scope of the Greek search and rescue zone, and this position comes as an extension of previous statements by the Greek Foreign Minister in September 2025, when he confirmed that Greece guaranteed the "safe navigation" of ships as long as they remained within its territorial waters, while informing Israel of the presence of Greek citizens on board.
