Israel kills 9 Palestinians in Gaza and demolishes 16 homes in Jenin and Hebron

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Monday,  June 8, that 9 Palestinians were killed and 43 others were injured in 24 hours, raising the death toll of the Israeli genocide since October 2023 to 72,980.

This came in a daily statistical statement by the ministry, in which it said that during the past 24 hours, the hospitals in the Gaza Strip received "9 martyrs and 43 injuries."

The ministry did not mention the circumstances of the deaths and injuries, while the Israeli army continues its violations of the ceasefire agreement in force since October 10  , 2025, by carrying out shelling and shooting operations, indicating that the toll of victims of Israeli violations of the agreement since its entry into force has risen to "970 martyrs and 3063 wounded."

The agreement was reached two years after a genocidal war started by Israel on October 8,  2023, and left, along with the victims, extensive destruction of 90% of civilian infrastructure, at a cost of reconstruction estimated by the United Nations at about $70 billion.

Israel demolishes 16 Palestinian homes in Hebron and Jenin

On Monday, the Israeli army demolished a house and a carpentry workshop in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, and pushed military reinforcements and heavy vehicles to the town of Barta'a, west of Jenin, in the northern West Bank, in preparation for the demolition of 15 houses under the pretext of building without a permit.

The son of the owner of the house, Abd al-Rahman Abu Sneineh, said, "The occupation forces raided Khirbet Qalqas south of Hebron city with their heavy vehicles, and demolished the house of my father, Nayef Abu Sneineh, which consists of two floors, with an area of about 500 square meters, and is inhabited by 5 people."

He told Anadolu Agency that Israeli forces also bulldozed the land and fences surrounding the site, uprooted a number of fruit trees, and demolished a carpentry workshop in al-Khirba owned by Palestinian Mohammed Abd al-Rahman Abu Sneina.

In the northern West Bank, local sources reported that the Israeli authorities are preparing to demolish 15 houses in the town of Barta'a, west of Jenin, where they have pushed 5 large demolition vehicles to the town, accompanied by army and police forces.

The sources indicated that the residents emptied the contents of their houses in anticipation of the demolitions, amid a state of anxiety and anticipation in the area.

According to data from the Committee to Resist the Wall and Settlements, the Israeli authorities carried out 70 demolitions last May, affecting 155 Palestinian facilities, including inhabited homes, agricultural facilities and livelihoods, in addition to issuing dozens of demolition orders.

Palestinian Prime Minister Calls for International Pressure on Israel

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa  on Monday called for  intensifying international and European pressure on Israel to stop "illegal measures and settler terrorism," in light of the escalation of attacks and the deterioration of economic conditions in the Palestinian territories.

He pointed to "the escalation of settlers' attacks and the occupation's crimes against Palestinians," which he said reached 1,659 during the month of May alone, as part of what he described as attempts to control more land and displace residents.

He pointed out that Israel continues to withhold clearance funds, the decline of the Palestinian economy by about 30% of GDP, and the rise in unemployment rates to unprecedented levels, due to Israeli restrictions on movement and work.

What are the Palestinian clearance funds?

Clearance funds are the proceeds of taxes and customs duties imposed on goods and goods imported into the Palestinian territories, whether from abroad or from Israel.

The Israeli Ministry of Finance collects these taxes at the crossings and ports it controls, based on the annex to the Paris Economic Protocol signed in 1994, before transferring them monthly to the Palestinian Ministry of Finance after deducting an administrative commission of 3% for the collection service.

Clearance funds constitute between 65 and 68 percent of the total revenues of the Palestinian Authority, and the Palestinian government relies on them to cover the salaries of employees and finance the operational expenses of hospitals, schools, and government institutions, making any disruption in their flow a direct factor in destabilizing financial and service within the Palestinian territories.

Palestinian clearance funds are subject to a policy of detention and severe deductions by Israel, resulting in the accumulation of an estimated $4.5 billion to $5 billion (about NIS 14 billion).

These deductions include deducting the quota allocated to the Gaza Strip, deducting fixed amounts related to the allocations of prisoners and martyrs, in addition to deducting electricity, water, and infrastructure debts without joint audit mechanisms.
