tension between France and the United States escalates, after the US embassy in Paris published a post on the "X" platform that cited a murder in the French city of Lyon as an example of "leftist extremist violence", which Paris considered interference in internal affairs, which prompted it to restrict the movement of the US ambassador in Paris in an unprecedented step between the two countries.
The French Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that the US ambassador, Charles Kushner, was prevented from holding direct meetings with French government ministers, after he was absent from a meeting at the Foreign Ministry that was dedicated to discussing statements issued by the administration of US President Donald Trump about the killing of an activist in France.
"The decision came as a result of what it considered to be a failure to comply with the basic requirements of diplomatic work and the requirements of representing the country, justifying this on personal commitments," the French Foreign Ministry said, noting that Minister Jean-Noël Barraux had requested that the ambassador not be granted the right to communicate with members of the government.
On the other hand, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed that the US ambassador will continue to perform his diplomatic duties while allowing for contacts and coordination through other channels, while the US ambassador acknowledged this mistake, expressing his unwillingness to interfere in internal affairs.
Kushner had previously sparked a diplomatic controversy after being summoned last August over criticism of the French government over the anti-Semitic file, but he did not attend in person at the time.
