The British royal family announced on Sunday that the prestigious historian Anna Kay has been tasked with writing the official and authorized biography of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The selection documents the career of one of the most important historical figures who rose to the throne of the United Kingdom for more than seventy years until her death in 2022.
Royal Choice and Preference for Women
According to British media reports, King Charles III was keen for a "woman" to take on this sensitive task, faithfully reflecting aspects of his mother's personal and political life.
Anna Kaye, 51, the daughter of prominent historians and the granddaughter of conservative politician Humphrey Atkins, has a solid academic background from Oxford University and a thorough specialisation in royal history.
Unlimited Archive Powers
Buckingham Palace confirmed in an official statement that Kay will receive extraordinary powers that include accessing the late Queen's official and personal papers in the Royal Archives, and conducting direct interviews with members of the royal family, the Queen's close friends and longtime staff.
"Great honor and historical responsibility"
In her first statement, Kaye described the mission as a "great honour and a great historical responsibility", stressing her commitment to documenting the Queen's life and legacy with the highest precision and comprehensiveness.
Kaye said: "Queen Elizabeth was an extraordinary woman, who has undergone major transformations over the course of a century, and I will do my best to deliver a biography worthy of her status."
Years of research and auditing
Anna Kay is a long-standing author of royal history, whose best-known works include The Last Royal Rebellion and The Turbulent Republic. Despite this extensive royal support, experts expect the work to take many years to complete, given the size of the archive and the length of her reign, as it took seven full years for the official biography of the Queen Mother to come to light.
Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022 at the age of 96, and recorded "old age" as the official cause of death, turning the page on the reign of Elizabeth II, which Kay will now take over on paper.
