In a move that establishes a new phase of digital service quality, the Minister of Communications and Technology, Abdul Salam Heikal, announced the success of making the first voice call over the 4G network "VoLTE" in Syria.
This came during the activities of the ceremony announcing the success of the first VoLTE call in Syria on MTN Telecom's new experimental IMS platform , organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
Heikal stressed that the development of the telecommunications sector is a top national priority, based on the accumulation of national expertise and competencies that have proven their ability to keep pace with global technological transformations.
Future Vision: Silk Link and Barq Net
Heikal explained that the ministry is moving according to a clear strategic vision towards the future, pointing to the launch of qualitative projects aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure, most notably the "Silklink" and "BarqNet" projects.
These projects come to meet the growing demand for data services and international connectivity, to serve both businesses and consumers.
The identity of the new operator will soon be revealed
In a related context, the Minister of Communications revealed that the ministry has reached advanced stages in studying technical and financial proposals related to granting a new license to a mobile operator in the country.
Heikal noted that the interest from international companies and investors "exceeded expectations", reflecting the attractiveness of the Syrian market and its ability to attract major technological investments.
He pointed out that the identity of the winning investor of the new operator's license is expected to be announced during the middle of this year, which will contribute to enhancing competitiveness and raising the quality of services provided to citizens.

VoLTE technology enables high-definition (HD) voice calls over 4G/LTE instead of 2G or 3G networks, providing high-quality calls and high-speed internet browsing during an uninterrupted call.
