Hasakah: U.S. Forces Continue Withdrawal from Qasrak Base

A large U.S. military convoy of more than 70 trucks and armored vehicles has pulled out of the Qasrak base in the countryside of Hasakah and headed toward Iraq, in what appears to be part of a broader American drawdown from northeastern Syria.

The withdrawal comes as U.S. forces accelerate the evacuation of their positions in the region, with Qasrak—one of Washington’s largest and most strategically significant bases in Syria—now undergoing a major transfer of equipment and military assets toward Iraqi territory.

U.S. forces had already moved part of their hardware out of the base in January 2026, amid reports that Washington was considering ending its military presence in Syria within a month.

Established in 2015, the Qasrak base sits between the towns of Tal Tamr and Tal Baydar, just south of the M4 international highway. Over the past decade, it has served as a key logistical hub for the U.S.-led coalition, housing extensive storage facilities and a dedicated airstrip for military cargo aircraft. The base has also functioned as a forward defensive and monitoring point tasked with securing supply routes leading from the Al-Walid border crossing with Iraq.

Earlier this year, U.S. forces withdrew from the Al-Tanf and Al-Shaddadi bases, handing them over to units affiliated with the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The moves mark a significant shift after more than ten years of American military presence in northeastern Syria as part of operations against the Islamic State (ISIS).
