Haaland and Odegaard lead Norway after 28 years of absence

Striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Martin Odegaard have topped the list of the Norwegian national team participating in this summer's World Cup, according to the squad revealed by the country's King Harald V in a video.

Manchester City striker Haaland and Odegaar, who was recently crowned champions of the Premier League with Arsenal, will be among 26 players who will represent Norway for the first time since the 1998 World Cup.

Other notable names include Antonio Noosa (RB Leipzig), Alexander Sorloth (Atletico Madrid), Julian Reierson (Borussia Dortmund), Jürgen Strand (Crystal Palace) and Oscar Pope (Fulham).

Norway plays in Group E alongside France, Senegal and Iraq.

The national team's career

The Norwegian national team reached the world football wedding in the United States, Canada and Mexico, after topping its group with a full mark (24 points from 8 matches), and beat its four-time world champion Italy, twice 3-0 in the first leg and 4-1 away from home.

Coach Staley Solbaken said: "We believe we have a strong team . A team that has achieved great results over a long period of time."

What did the king say?

In his pre-recorded message on social media, King Harald said his country had "waited a long time" to return to the World Cup.

"Hope is still alive, on gravel, on natural and artificial grass... Over long distances, across ferries and mountain passes."

Goalkeeper Sander Tangvik is the only player in the squad who has never represented the national team, and he joined the list in part because FIFA rejected another goalkeeper's request to change his sports nationality from Russian to Norwegian due to residency requirements.

Norway will play two warm-up friendlies against Sweden and Morocco early next month, ahead of their World Cup opener against Iraq on June 16
