Exceeds the threshold of 2 million tons. The Ministry of Economy reveals the figures for the receipt of wheat

The Ministry of Economy and Industry announced, on Tuesday, July 14, an unprecedented strategic achievement in the food security sector, as the quantities of local wheat received exceeded the threshold of 2 million tons since the start of harvesting and supply operations for the current season until the twelfth of this month, amid the remarkable topping of the silos and centers of Al-Hasakah governorate in the receiving and distribution lists in the various branches and centers of the Syrian governorates.

In an official post on Facebook, the Ministry indicated that the operations of receiving the strategic crop have achieved tangible qualitative progress in terms of the pace of flow, the quality of the received crops and the diversity of their varieties, noting that the supply operations have reached their peak in many vital centers, which directly contributes to strengthening the national stock, securing the basic needs of citizens, and supporting the pillars of food security in the country.

Al-Hasakah in the lead

The digital data issued by the Ministry showed that the total quantities of local wheat received as of July 12 amounted to  2,076,754 tons, which were shipped and supplied through 116,101 successful deliveries carried out in 84 fully equipped centers distributed in 11 Syrian governorates.

Soft wheat accounted for the largest percentage of supplies with 54.4% of the total quantities received (equivalent to 1,129,462 tonnes), while the quantities of durum wheat supplied amounted to 947,293 tonnes, representing 45.6%.

At the level of branches and governorates, Al-Hasakah Governorate topped the list of the best receiving centers in the country with a quantity of 73,763 tons, followed by Kabka and Al-Tawarij centers of the same governorate.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Raqqa  came in second place with a total of 341,440 tons, followed by Aleppo with 262,045 tons, while Idlib silos ranked fifteenth, recording a supply of 41,340 tons.

Quality Wheat Supplier Distribution

The technical committees at the Ministry revealed that "second-grade" wheat topped the distribution of quality ratings with a percentage of 42.9%, wheat from "third grade" came in second place with 28%, followed by wheat from "fourth grade" with 20.9%, while the percentage of "first-grade" premium wheat remained stable at 8.2%.

It is noteworthy that the highest daily receipt rate was recorded on June 29 with a quantity of 82,718 tons, while the first of July witnessed the maximum number of daily transactions with 4,749 deliveries.

Financial incentives and technical facilities to support farmers

In mid-May, President Ahmed al-Sharaa issued a decree granting a rewarding incentive bonus of 9,000 Syrian pounds for each ton of wheat delivered to the Syrian Grains Corporation, which was directly added to the official purchase price approved by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, which set the price of one ton of first-grade durum wheat at 46,000 Syrian pounds for the 2026 season.

Technology played a pivotal role in the success of the current season, following the launch of an electronic platform dedicated to booking and receiving crops in early April, with the aim of simplifying and organizing the procurement and receipt processes and avoiding congestion. The Director General of the Corporation, Hassan Al-Othman, confirmed that the launch of the platform and the provision of field and technical support teams in various centers have effectively contributed to accelerating the booking and unloading processes and raising the operational efficiency of warehouses and silos.
