Erdogan warns humanity against paying the price of a "futile" and "illegal" war

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that the price of the ongoing "absurd, illegal and unnecessary" war in the region is not only paid by the parties to the conflict but by all humanity and that countries on different continents will be more affected in terms of the energy dimension.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum's Turkey Strategy meeting in Istanbul, Erdogan noted that the entire world is feeling the negative effects of the ongoing war in the region on a large scale, from energy markets to production, information technology, transportation, and trade networks.

"While there is an opportunity to find common ground through diplomacy and dialogue, we as an international community all bear the burden of sabotaging these avenues,"  he added, warning that "if the clashes do not end, the cost to be paid will be exacerbated and geographical distance will make no sense at this stage."

On the other hand, President Erdoğan stressed that global risk analyses show that the international system has entered a more competitive and fragile phase, stressing that all these developments are reducing the number of stable economies.

"In this new phase, the global economic system is under threat from several fronts," he said,   noting that problems related to energy security, the erosion of supply chains, the international trading system and protectionist policies are increasing the fragility of economies.
