Erdogan confirms: Turkey's support for Syria will continue "uninterrupted"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that the consolidation of the stability environment in Syria is an important gain for the entire region, and that Turkey's support for Syria will continue "uninterrupted."

This came during a phone call, Wednesday, May 20, with US President Donald Trump, the content of which was revealed by the Turkish Presidency's Communication Department, in a post published on the Turkish platform "In Social".

Erdoğan assured his US counterpart that Ankara will continue to support the constructive initiatives put forward to resolve the contentious issues in the region,  noting that he considers the decision to extend the ceasefire in the course of the conflict in the region a "positive development", expressing his belief that a reasonable solution can be reached on the controversial issues.

In a post on his platform Truth Social,  Trump announced on Monday evening the suspension of a military attack scheduled for Tuesday on Iran following a request he received from Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Trump said he had instructed him to "prepare to proceed with a full-scale and full-scale attack on Iran, at any moment, in the event that an acceptable deal is not reached."

NATO summit preparations

The Turkish presidency's Communication Department said that Erdogan stressed the need to prevent the deterioration of the situation in Lebanon, adding that  the two presidents also touched during the call on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit scheduled in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on July 7 and 8.

In  this regard, Erdogan stressed  that Turkey's preparations for the summit are ongoing and that it is  making maximum efforts to ensure the success of the summit in all aspects.

Trump: Erdogan is strong and a great ally

Trump announced that he had a "very good" phone call with his Turkish counterpart Erdogan, whom he described as a "great ally,"  while responding to questions from reporters at Joint Base Andrews Airport as he returned to Washington after attending a military graduation ceremony in Connecticut.

"We had a very good phone call with President Erdogan," Trump said. We have a very good relationship," he said, adding that President Erdogan is "a strong person, but I have a relationship with him that no one else has."

"I think he was a very good ally, some might question that, but I see him as a great ally, and his people respect him."
